OUR CARBON FOOTPRINT

We feel that the Reef Futures conference is best experienced in person. The premise of the conference is knowledge sharing across sectors, across demographics, and across ocean basins. The energy of being truly present for the plenary sessions, the special events like the poster session, and the ad-hoc hallway conversations provide benefits to attendees that cannot be replicated. Reef Futures is designed for human-to-human interaction, networking, and bonding with one another, putting our minds together to advance the impact of coral restoration.

We recognize that implementing a global, in-person event requires travel, and that travel adds to our carbon footprint. We understand and respect that some choose to minimize their carbon footprint by electing not to travel.

Reef Futures aims to lessen the environmental impact of participant travel to the event by supporting organizations that work to restore carbon-sequestering species like mangroves.

In 2022, Reef Futures donated $25,000 on behalf of its participants to Vida Manglar in Columbia. Reef Futures 2024 will work with the Iberostar Group to identify a similar local organization to support.
